@smartpartsvibe1295 Yep, it’s one of two pineapple plants I’m growing. It’s getting huge too!

smartpartsvibe1295 @ 1:32 am #

is that a pineapple plant that you are growing ? to the left of you

@GardenNewbie Used coffee grounds are what I was using here. Unused grounds are too acidic. You can buy a small bag of worm castings and make worm tea to water your plants for some fantastic growth results. It’s what I’m using at the moment. Great GREAT stuff!

GardenNewbie @ 2:07 am #

do you mean coffee grounds that have been put through a perculator already? is there any other substitute? cause all i use in my house is instant coffee and wouldnt know where to get any used coffee, lol

Kathe555 @ 2:29 am #

Hey Ray, I really like how you used those thin mints for the composting! I’ll have to try it myself.

Praxxus55712 @ 3:15 am #

@NorwegianGardener I’ve composted just coffee grounds. They ended up being a great addition to the soil. Just make sure you don’t use just composted coffee grounds as fertilizer. It can eventually add acidity to the soil, although not alot. You could toss in leftover letttuce and other veggies to give the compost some variety and balance.

NorwegianGardener @ 3:17 am #

Hey! i work in a coffe shop, what do you think about compost just used coffe and filters? do you think it will need something else=)? cheers from Norway

@stymye There aren’t any feces in it that’s for sure, cause i removed it all.. If it did break down I would test PH and any other tests that I could do on it and certainly would not be putting it on veggie patch. I make regular compost for the garden, this is just a test for interest sake. Just as people use human manure.. but this is only wet paper. Thanks for the concern and I guess to voice that to others.. I will be careful. likely to take 2 years to do..

stymye @ 4:52 am #

@Watsamadoing don’t mean to be harsh here but ..In that case, I would recommend just buying compost… cat litter and urine, feces..ect ..thats a bit too risky…it’s important to understand the basics of compost,, you can easilly create something far more harmfull than helpfull if you are unsure about such things.

lots of info ion the internet,, please be selective about what you use and how you use it .

No fire in the fireplace on a cold winter day?

Praxxus55712 @ 6:08 am #

@JoeHell67 Good decision. Save the nylons for robbing a convenience store. :)

JoeHell67 @ 6:41 am #

..you got me with the candy, i really thought you…well..
i was discussing this method with my workmate and he said, hey, i can also throw in some buns of leftover McD’s Burgers!

I said, no…only edible stuff, i guess…

I think some nylon stockings from my GF would be the perfect cover instead of one of my old T-Shirts, ’cause the old T-Shirts are the most comfortable =]

thanks for the seed, Ray…can’t wait for the weather to warm up here. Its going to be a great year….best to you as well.

Praxxus55712 @ 7:14 am #

@Watsamadoing Nope. It’ll compost down very very hot and fast.

Watsamadoing @ 7:57 am #

Question Ray: For my cat litter trays, I use ‘Breeders Choice’ litter which is recycled paper. I am about to begin an experiment of using the litter as a component to compost (Nuggets removed of course) Most of it’s not too wet but would you think I need to do anything to reduce the ammonia from the wet portion?

terrifiedprojects @ 7:58 am #

lol great humor. thx

LOL I like the mint trick. You had me fooled! OK, between you and jihadacadien‬‏ I have officially started a coffee can compost bin. When it gets full, I’ll go get another 5 gallon bucket and use that.

BreakfastBentoBox @ 12:56 pm #

@jihadacadien Yeah, I get yelled at everytime i have to disassemble something in the livingroom. Guess that’s why it is called a living room.

TheDogondone @ 1:42 pm #

daligoddess2006 @ 2:15 pm #
